The process - more than a breakthrough

High-quality created diamonds have been present for many years. These diamonds are created by placing carbon, the primary element of all diamonds, in conditions that recreate the forces of nature. The LifeGem® process differs by using an exact carbon source to create a beautiful and meaningful diamond tribute for you and your family. In summary, here is how we create your LifeGem diamond...

Step one - Carbon capture

Now, after extensive research and development, we have discovered how to extract the carbon from a lock of hair. This advanced and delicate procedure has been specifically designed to capture almost all of the available carbon in a lock of hair. Our technology works only in a special high-nitrogen, low-oxygen atmosphere. We have refined this process to ensure the maximum available carbon for your LifeGem diamond(s).

Originally, we began the LifeGem creation process by capturing carbon from existing remains of your loved one's standard cremation. While we can, and still do, use this process for those who have previously lost a loved one, capturing carbon from a lock of hair means a LifeGem diamond is now available for anyone choosing cremation or burial... or if you purely want to create a symbol of your precious bond with someone you love.

Step two - Purification

Once captured, this carbon is heated to extremely high temperatures under special conditions. While removing the existing ash, this process converts your loved one's carbon to graphite with unique characteristics and elements that will create your one-of-a-kind LifeGem diamond like no other in this world.

Step three - Creation

To create your LifeGem®, we now place this graphite in one of our unique diamond presses, which replicate the awesome forces deep within the earth - heat and pressure. The more time in the press, the larger the rough diamond crystal that results.

Step four - Certification

Finally, our skilled diamond cutters facet your LifeGem diamond(s) according to your wishes, laser etch your unique identifier on the girdle, and certify it for authenticity. All LifeGem diamonds are individually inspected, graded, and identified by world-renowned gemologists trained by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The world's finest jewelers use this same certification process.

LifeGem diamonds are available in brilliant and beautiful yellows and blues. Like a sunset captured in time or a wave upon the ocean, each LifeGem® will have its own individual hue within the color family you choose.

Carats and Cuts

As the most precious and rare diamond you could ever own, your stunning LifeGem diamond makes a unique statement. Choose from carat sizes ranging from .25ct to over 1.0ct. The most brilliant cuts are round, princess, or radiant, but almost any cut you desire is available upon request.

Clarity

As one of our clients said about her husband, "He was perfect, yet certainly not flawless. I wouldn't expect his LifeGem to be without flaws either." At the LifeGem state of the art diamond facility, we pride ourselves on creating the highest quality diamonds possible, but please understand that this is a scientific process that produces a unique diamond every time. Your LifeGem diamond will have flaws similar to a natural diamond. LifeGem diamond ratings can range from VVS to I.

Information about Cremation

With cremations on the rise, not only in the US, but worldwide, it is quite easy to understand how many new people develop questions. Cremations as a percentage of deaths are forecasted to top 36% by the year 2010. In this section of our site, we hope to provide you with answers to basic questions. Standard cremation process is as follows:

At the time of death, professionally trained staff will transport your pet to the cremation facility.

At the time of cremation, the deceased pet is placed in the cremation chamber. This process usually takes 1 to 2 hours, and is overseen by licensed and trained staff.

Once the cremation process is complete, the cremated remains are removed from the chamber. Any foreign material, such as metal from bridgework or prosthetic devices, are removed and typically discarded.

The cremated remains are then processed to a consistent size and shape and placed into the cremation urn selected by the family. The cremated remains are then returned to the family.

The procedure necessary to create a LifeGem diamond is exactly the same as above; however, eight (8) ounces or half a cup is put aside to be sent to our facility to begin the LifeGem diamond creation process.
As always, your pets remains are handled with only the utmost care and respect.

Information about Diamonds

Diamond, the hardest known material is pure carbon, crystallized under a very high pressure and temperature. In nature, such an environment exists only at depths of 90 to 125 miles (150 to 200 km) below the surface of the earth. Volcanic eruptions drive the diamond bearing rocks called "Kimberlite" and "Lamproite" to the surface of the earth where the diamonds can be extracted.

What happens next?

The diamonds are mined by numerous and very diverse methods, depending on how the diamonds are presented at the earth's surface. Some diamonds are freed by erosion and carried along by rivers. Riverbeds are dug away and the river silt is sieved. Another approach is to dredge the sandy coastal strata. Finding diamonds is typically the result of large industrial operations, but occasionally can be found with small-scale methods, or even manual labor.

Diamonds are rare. It is usual that 250 tons of rock, sand and gravel must be processed to yield one carat of diamond. The saying goes, "Five billion truckloads of earth for ONE truckload of diamonds."

Now for some information on the best kept secret. Coloured, or "fancy" diamonds are the MOST rare and priceless diamonds available.

Many people have never even heard of coloured diamonds. Almost all of the publicity and advertising for diamonds is slanted towards convincing consumers that white, or more accurately colourless, is the only desirable colour for diamonds. Fortunately, an educated public makes a wiser consumer. Diamonds occur in a wide variety of colours. Many of these colours are very attractive and the diamonds, due to their rarity, are even more desirable than colourless ones. This is especially true of intensely coloured diamonds.

You may wonder why, if coloured diamonds are so fabulous, you don't hear more about them? Most likely, the main reason coloured diamonds are never promoted is the very fact that they are so rare. Why bother to promote something with a very limited supply that you can't get enough of? Intense, or "canary" yellow is the most common, with only a handful of natural blues and reds even known to exist. The prices for these natural coloured diamonds can easily top $100,000 per carat, with some reaching well over $1,000,000. What does certified mean?
Our LifeGem created diamonds, like natural diamonds, are authenticated and identified by our world-renown and highly trained gemologists. LifeGem also exceeds all regulated standards in the funeral industry, and by tracking the process from order placement all the way to setting with extreme detail, we can ensure a certified, high-quality LifeGem diamond created from the carbon of your loved one every single time.

How much does a LifeGem cost?

Is the Envirocin LifeGem made from remains or ashes? The proprietary LifeGem creation process creates diamonds from the true essence of our pets, the carbon. Our families receive the ashes as all others do when choosing cremation, except our families also receive a certified, high-quality LifeGem created diamond to memorialize their pets' unique and wonderful life. This process of creating a LifeGem begins with a portion of the cremated remains from any standard cremation. What if I have less than the requested amount of material? We have been able to make a diamond out of as little as a tablespoon of cremated remains or a few small wisps of hair. The amount of remains or hair will not affect the size of the LifeGem diamond your order. You can order any size Option Range. ............................................. If I want 2 or more diamonds, do I need to send in more than 8 ounces? From just 8 ounces of cremated remains, we can extract enough carbon to make all the diamonds that a family wants. We can store this carbon for the family after their order is completed, in case they should ever want replacement or additional LifeGem diamonds created. ............................................. How long does it take to create a diamond? Typically, it takes about 6 months to create a yellow diamond and 9 months to create a blue diamond. Throughout the process, we notify our families via email when major milestones during the process have been completed. How can I be sure that the diamond I receive contains the carbon from my loved one? Legitimacy is our highest priority. As soon as an order is received, we immediately assign a unique 16 digit tracking number. This number follows the diamond throughout the entire process. Multiple system checks occur at each stage of the process to ensure that order integrity is retained.
